- Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens was and is a celebrated author from the 1800's with novels highlighting the social divisions of Victorian England, many of which are now plays, films, and musicals.

The most well-known of his novels - A Christmas Carol - is the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and Bob Cratchit. It is now well known thanks to the many film and TV adaptations of the book. Scrooge, the nasty money hoarder and overbearing boss, is transformed after he has a dream in which he is confronted by three ‘ghosts’ – his past, his present and future lives. The dreams transform him and he becomes generous and caring.

The story of Ebenezer Scrooge is an illustration of understanding that the Christmas story is about the birth of Jesus the Saviour of the world. It is the beginning of God’s plan for people to experience the transformation of their lives!
