Have you ever told someone you’d pray for them… and then forgot? Or said, “Let me think about it,” when you already knew the answer was no? Yeah, me too.
We live in a world layered with fine print, contracts, and disclaimers. Why? Because somewhere along the way, people stopped keeping their word. So now we protect ourselves with pages of legal talk—and trust becomes a rare commodity.
But Jesus? He cuts through the noise with one simple instruction: “Just say yes or no. Anything more comes from the evil one.” (Matthew 5:37)
It’s not just about oaths. It’s about integrity. It’s about being the kind of person whose words and life match. No fluff. No spin. No pretending.
Jesus is calling us out of performance mode and into integrity mode. Not to shame us, but to change us—to help us become people others can count on. People who pause before they promise, speak simply, and follow through even when it’s inconvenient.
Integrity isn’t flashy. It doesn’t grab headlines. But it builds trust, gives peace, and carries power.
And here’s the best news: Jesus never broke a promise. He said He’d rise again—and He did. He said He’d never leave us—and He hasn’t. He promised to return—and one day, He will.
So let’s be people who reflect His character. Let’s be trustworthy. Let’s live like our words actually matter.
Let your “yes” be yes. Your “no” be no. And let Jesus be seen in the way you speak.
